Sunday, April 25, Helen Frost lead a poetry-writing workshop for adults: Finding A Story in the Language of the Poem, at the Eugene Public Library
Helen Frost is a poet and a noted young-adult book author. She has taught writing at all levels from pre-school through university. Extending her teaching into community, she has collaborated with artists in other disciplines, including African drumming and dance to help young people deal with violence in their lives. Her most recent adult collection of poetry is, as if a dry wind. She has also published five novels-in-poems for children and young adults, anthologies, a play, and a book about teaching writing. In 2009, Helen was awarded an NEA Poetry Fellowship. She and her husband have two sons and presently live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Through the years she has lived in Scotland, Massachusetts, Vermont, Oregon and Alaska. When she lived in Eugene, she took part in the Lane Literary Guild, and was its president in 1989. Frost’s poetry is finely textured with small detailed observations that radiate warm regard. Shreds of lichen, curls of hair—vivid stories emerge from surprising fragments.
